The neighborhood

Six phases, four busy years

Windcrest packs 397 single-family homes, built from 2003 to 2007, onto compact lots inside Holly Springs town limits. The association runs a clubhouse and pool on 6.17 acres at 1800 Crossway Ln, and Veterans Park sits on land platted as Windcrest open space.1, 4, 8, 13

Windcrest went up fast. Its six phases were platted between 2002 and 2006, and county records show 161 of the 397 homes finished in 2005 alone. The Wake subdivision record lists 393 lots off Steedmont Dr, and the Town maps the Windcrest PUD at about 110 acres.1, 2, 10, 13

Lots are small, with a median of 0.13 acres, so yards are for grilling, not gardening. Homes run from about 1,300 to 3,600 heated square feet. Palmdale Ct and Sanchez Ct hold the smallest plans, with medians near 1,650 to 1,660 square feet; Sunny Chloe Ct and Clardona Way have the largest, above 3,000.1, 13

Here’s the quirk worth knowing: the 9.76-acre Veterans Park parcel at 600 Bikram Dr is recorded as common open space from Windcrest Phase 4, but the Town of Holly Springs owns it. The Town lists a fishing pier and a half-mile greenway linking to Sunset Lake Rd and Jones Park.8, 11
